Adding a wick: series, sizing, and vessel pairing

Add the wicks you burn with — start typing a size and Ellie matches it to her wick guide, so she can pair the right wick to your vessel.

Your wicks live on the Wicks shelf of the candle pantry, alongside your waxes, fragrances, and vessels. Adding one tells Ellie exactly which wicks you stock, so the recipes and burn tests she suggests only ever call for a wick you can actually reach for. For the four-shelf overview, see Your candle pantry.

Start with the wick guide

Tap + Add wick and start typing a size in the Name field — something like CD-12, ECO-6, or a wooden width like 0.04in x 0.5in. As you type, Ellie checks her built-in wick guide for a match. When she finds one, a card appears offering it From the wick guide — accept it and she stamps the reference size onto your wick and fills in the name for you.

If nothing matches, whatever you typed saves as your own custom wick. Either way, the wick lands on your shelf.

The series in the guide

The wick guide is organized by series. Each series is a family of wicks with its own construction and the wax families it suits:

SeriesTypeSuited to
CDCottonSoy, coconut, paraffin, blends
ECOCottonSoy, coconut, paraffin, blends
HTPCottonSoy, coconut, paraffin, blends
LXCottonSoy, coconut, paraffin, blends
WoodenWoodSoy, coconut, blends
ZincZinc-coreParaffin, blends

You don't have to memorize any of this — when you accept a match from the guide, Ellie carries the series, wick type, and compatible waxes onto the wick's detail panel for you.

Sizing to your vessel

Wick sizing is the heart of a good candle, so the shelf has a lookup built in. Tap Browse wick guide and enter your Vessel inner diameter (in) and a Wax family — Ellie shows the guide sizes rated for that diameter and wax, so you know which wick to try before you buy it.

Sizing is never a one-and-done, though. A wick that reads right on paper still has to earn its place at the burn table.

Tip: keep at least two nearby sizes on the shelf for any vessel you're dialing in. Burn testing is a process of sizing up or down, and Ellie can only suggest a wick you actually have.

Once you're testing, log what you see in the burn test log so Ellie can help you read the results.

If your wick isn't in the guide

Some wicks won't be in the guide — a newer series, a regional brand, an unusual size. Type the name anyway and you can still add it as a custom wick. If you'd like Ellie to size pours around it, choose Not in the wick guide? Propose a custom size and tell her the Series, Wax family, the Vessel diameter min and max it's rated for, and the Wick count. That teaches your workspace the size so it behaves like a guide entry going forward.

Fill in the rest of the details that matter — the Brand, how many you have On hand, a Reorder at level so low stock flows onto your shopping list, and the per-piece cost if you track it. Then Save.

The free plan holds 50 items

Your pantry counter shows how many items you've added across all four shelves. On the free plan, the pantry holds up to 50 items total — waxes, wicks, fragrances, and vessels combined. When you reach it, + Add wick is disabled until you upgrade or remove something.

Heads up: the 50-item cap counts your whole pantry, not just your wicks. Beta and paid workspaces don't hit this limit.

To move a whole shelf at once instead of adding wicks one by one, see importing and exporting.
